Two Ministers Down, Nine More To Go

“I wholeheartedly support Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s decision today to cut the size of the Executive,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.

“ACT currently has a Smaller Government Bill which will limit the size of the Executive to 20 Ministers.

“She’s implementing our policy one Minister at a time.

“Meka Whaitiri was this afternoon removed as Minister of Customs and her portfolio handed to Minister Kris Faafoi.

“Ms Ardern, by handing the portfolio to another Minister instead of looking to the backbenches for reinforcements, must acknowledge there was never a need for 28 Ministers and 3 Under-Secretaries in the first place.

“I can think of a few pointless ministerial portfolios that could be covered by fewer Ministers and save the taxpayer forking out for unnecessary high-paid Ministers.

“If she sacks nine more, I will withdraw my Smaller Government Bill.”
