PGF Announcements an Opportunity to Diversify Southland Economy

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Regional Economic Development, Fletcher Tabuteau, announced just under $2 million of Provincial Growth Fund investment in Southland today. $424,900 was provided for a business case to build a state of the art hatchery and nursery and $490,000 to scope the expansion of the Sheep and Goat milk industry.

“There is a need to support the diversification of the Southland economy, especially through the support of high-value industries. The Provincial Growth Fund is a massive opportunity for Southland to future-proof the economy and transform the region for future generations,” says NZ First List MP based in Clutha-Southland, Mark Patterson.

The announcement also included $995,000 funding of stage two of the Invercargill inner-city development, to ensure the project attracts future investment. This follows the $12m PGF funding for digital connectivity in the Milford area announced in November.

“Southland will face infrastructure challenges as the region attracts more visitors and the local population grows. Infrastructure funding ensures that we can support the diversification of our economy and the growth of the region” says Mr Patterson.
