Finance Minister heads to US for meetings with World Bank and IMF

Grant Robertson will depart tomorrow for a series of high-level meetings in Washington.

The Spring Meetings of the Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund provide a range of opportunities to develop relationships with World Bank and IMF executives along with senior US public officials.

The Minister will be meeting with Governor of the Bank of England, the Chair of the United States Council of Economic Advisors, the Vice Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve and the Deputy Secretary of the United States Treasury.

The Minister will also present to the plenary session of the meetings on the Government’s Wellbeing Budget.

“The timing of this trip will build on the momentum and interest in New Zealand’s Wellbeing Agenda from our attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, earlier this year.

“It will also provide an opportunity to discuss current and potential challenges to the international economic outlook and what this may mean for New Zealand.

“As an outward facing export nation, New Zealand is not immune to global uncertainty so it is a good time to gauge thinking as clouds gather on the international economic horizon,“ Grant Robertson said.

The Minister returns to New Zealand on April 14.
