Dunne: MMP referendum reduced to farce

The MMP referendum is being reduced to a meaningless farce, UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne said today.

"What information is actually out there and getting through to people on what is a very important decision?" Mr Dunne asked.

"It has been squeezed out by the World Cup, and now with just a three-week window until the election, it is predictably being completely over-run by political party election campaigns.

"The result risks being one where what should have been a well considered vote on what electoral system New Zealanders want becomes a complete non-event.

"The media and the Electoral Commission have a massive task ahead of them in the next three weeks to ensure New Zealanders have the information they will need to caste an informed vote," Mr Dunne said.
