Hunters and the outdoor community have long memories of John Banks says UnitedFuture candidate and outdoor recreation advocate Alan Simmons

“Hunters and responsible firearm owners are braced for some poorly thought-out policy after John Key’s cup of tea with Mr Banks over the weekend.”

“Hunters remember Banks’ indifference and arrogance toward them in his tenure as Police Minister and his determination to drive through anti-firearm legislation.”

As one of the keen outdoors people involved with UnitedFuture Alan Simmons says people who love getting into New Zealand’s outdoors and want to see New Zealand go ahead socially as well as economically should think carefully about the values ACT might bring to the table.

“I remember the arrogance John Banks showed in dealing with the hunters and fisherman of New Zealand,” says Mr Simmons.

“Many of the libertarian attitudes people respected about ACT are nowhere to be found in John Banks’ moralistic authoritarian attitudes toward other people’s lives. Where that attitude seeks to prevent responsible Kiwi firearm owners putting food on the table and enjoying New Zealand’s outdoors, he is likely to find people have longer memories than is convenient.”

Mr Simmons urges all lovers of a healthy outdoor lifestyle to remember how John Banks had treated them when he was last given access to the Beehive and make sure UnitedFuture is in a position to moderate that influence.
