It’s Not about the Money

Hone Harawira
MANA Leader

10th February 2012

It’s Not about the Money

“There has been intense interest in the activities of MANA and many calls for me to attend meetings around the country to talk about the movement, its policies, and the issues that MANA speaks to,” said MANA leader Hone Harawira.

“The ever-deepening level of poverty in Aotearoa and the call for strong leadership around issues like ‘Feeding the Kids’, union battles, evictions from state housing, food banks, beneficiary abuse, and the intense levels of incarceration in this country, mean that calls for my advice and the support of MANA are actually growing daily.”

“I have done my best to respond to the requests that continue to come in, and, along with my parliamentary and electorate duties, I will do my best to meet those requests as often as I can.”

“I also represent one of the largest electorates in the country and maintain a rigorous commitment to providing support to my constituents right throughout that electorate. Tai Tokerau is not like some electorates where you can walk from one end to the other by lunchtime and I am proud of the commitment I am able to make to providing good service to the people of the north.”

“And Tai Tokerau voters are like no other in the country. Fiercely independent, they have the highest expectation of their representative in parliament and I intend to do my best to live up to their expectations."
