Residents last to know

Latest zoning decisions announced by the Government leave families in Southshore in limbo again, says Labour’s Earthquake Recovery spokesperson Lianne Dalziel.

“All the families want is certainty --- a red or green light that enables them to move on with their lives,” Lianne Dalziel said.

Lianne Dalziel said she was disappointed with the way the announcement was handled by Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee.

“The night before the announcement the media gets an advisory saying there will be an announcement at a given time.

“There is no notice to residents, and on this occasion Labour MPs were not even notified.

“These are fragile families and delicate situations.” Lianne Dalziel said. “There have been a number of zoning announcements and the Government has learnt nothing from community reactions in the past and requests for transparency.

“Yesterday’s private briefing for families who lost loved ones in the CTV building collapse showed sensitivity. The zoning briefings are anything but sensitive. They are cruel.”
