Supporting kids a smart investment

Fonterra’s extension to the milk in schools programme to all primary children is a fantastic investment, says Labour MP for Manurewa Louisa Wall.

“It is wonderful that Hillpark Primary School in Manurewa was able to host the launch. Both the teachers and kids were really excited about the scheme.
“With the Government’s own figures showing that more than 80,000 children are going to school with empty stomachs, the milk in schools programme will make a huge difference.

“The health and educational benefits that come with a nutritious diet cannot be overstated. That is why Labour has pledged to work with community groups to provide free food in every decile 1-3 primary and intermediate school that needs and wants it.

“We need to take action to ensure all Kiwi families earn a decent wage and can support their children. But in the meantime, initiatives that ensure our kids have got the fuel they need to learn is crucial.

“Giving our kids the best start in life is a smart investment. I want to thank Fonterra for its leadership and generosity on behalf of all of the children in my electorate and across New Zealand,” Louisa Wall said.
