Justice sector excels at IPANZ awards

Justice Minister Judith Collins has congratulated the Ministry of Justice on winning two awards at this evening’s 2013 Institute of Public Administration New Zealand (IPANZ) gen-i Public Sector Excellence Awards.

The Ministry of Justice’s ‘Joined-up Justice’ project, nominated alongside the Department of Corrections and the New Zealand Police, won the award for 'Working Together for Better Public Services’.

The Ministry also won the ‘Improving Public Value through Business Transformation’ category for its transformation of its Collections Operating Model to collect more fines, improve customer service and improve public trust in the justice system.

“I congratulate the Ministry and the Justice sector on this outstanding achievement,” Ms Collins says.

“Justice, Police and Corrections continue to work collaboratively together to deliver Better Public Services for all New Zealanders and it’s fantastic to see the sector’s hard work recognised.”

Ms Collins also presented the IPANZ inaugural award for ‘Integrity and Trust’, sponsored by the Justice sector, to category winner - the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

“Integrity and trust are the very values that underpin New Zealand’s justice system,” Ms Collins says.

“The Integrity and Trust Award is one way we can recognise the faith New Zealanders place in the work done by public servants, and the importance of that trust – which is hard to win and easily lost.”
