Gordon Stephenson A Great Kiwi

New Zealand First is joining with others to honour the life of farming environmentalist, Gordon Stephenson, who has passed away aged 91.

“How Gordon Stephenson was never knighted I do not know, because if anyone epitomises the knightly ideal, it was surely Gordon and his wife Celia,” says New Zealand First Primary Industries Spokesperson, Richard Prosser.

“Gordon’s life was dedicated to the belief that farming and the environment are not mutually exclusive. He lived, farmed and proved that over a long distinguished career of service to both causes.

“He was also unique in being a dual life member of Royal Forest and Bird as well as Federated Farmers, pioneering both the QEII National Trust and the New Zealand Farm Environment Awards. The highest accolade in environmental farming rightly bears his name.

“Gordon Stephenson was a great New Zealander,” Mr Prosser concluded.
