High profile indigenous rights and environmental activists Marama Davidson (Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou) and Teanau Tuiono (Ngāi Takoto, Ngāpuhi, Cook Island Māori) will launch the strongest ever Green Party campaigns for Tāmaki Makaurau and Manurewa tomorrow, at a fun-filled evening with speeches, cultural performances, and music.

"I have lived most of my life in South Auckland and am raising my own family there. It’s been an honour to be a strong voice for our communities in my time as an MP,” said Green Party Tāmaki Makaurau candidate Marama Davidson.

"I love campaigning in this electorate and talking with whānau about the importance of making their voices heard on ending homelessness and the housing crisis, protecting our water and ensuring everyone has a good job and decent income.

“I’m so excited to be campaigning alongside Teanau Tuiono this year, one of Aotearoa’s leading voices on the impacts of climate change on Pacific and indigenous communities, who brings a wealth of experience in activism and the education sector to politics," said Ms Davidson.

“As someone who grew up as a typical working class kid in South Auckland, I’m really proud to be standing in Manurewa as a first-time candidate for the Green Party,” said Manurewa candidate Teanau Tuiono.

“With enough party votes for the Greens in this election, I will be elected as the first ever Pasifika Green MP to stand as representative for our communities in Parliament.

“A party vote for the Greens is a vote for more Māori and Pasifika MPs in Parliament, and a vote to give us the influence to deliver for our people in government,” said Mr Tuiono.
