ACT Wants Real Causes Of Crime Addressed |
||
Thursday 1st July 1999
Patricia Schnauer
ACT Justice Spokesman Patricia Schnauer today said that while Government was spending its time and taxpayers money putting in place a gun registration system, the real causes of crime would not be addressed.
"Gun control does not mean crime control. We have to get real about addressing the causes of crime. Gun registration will not mean that New Zealanders are safer on the streets or in their homes. Making sure New Zealanders are safe from criminals is the number one priority of any Government.
"ACT will not be supporting gun registration because it is simply a costly, feel-good measure that will do nothing to keep New Zealanders safe from criminals with guns.
"ACT wants the Government to get on with addressing the real causes of crime," said Patricia Schnauer.
