Dolphin Bill to be debated in Parliament |
||
Member's Bill drawn from ballot
For Immediate
Release
Wednesday, July 07, 1999
Annabel Young says that she is delighted that her Member's Bill on protecting dolphins has been selected in the ballot at Parliament.
The Prohibition on Capture of Marine Mammals (Whales and Dolphins in Captivity) Bill will prohibit the Minister of Conservation from allowing the capture or holding of any new dolphins in New Zealand. It also protects the Napier Dolphins and allows Napier Marineland to make all decisions for the care and future of Kelly and Shona, the dolphins held in Napier Marineland.
Miss Young
said that she looked forward to introducing the Dolphin
Bill. "There is a lot of public support for this bill. I
hope that all the Parties in Parliament will support this
measure to protect dolphins in the wild."
"This bill
recognises the superb standard of care that Shona and Kelly
receive in Napier Marineland."
The bill will be introduced
on the next Members' Day.
