ACT signals more social spending
ACT Leader Richard Prebble has today signalled a major investment by his party in social spending . Speaking to delegates at the ACT Auckland regional conference, Mr Prebble said young women on the DPB should receive a range of state funded support, from education through to job skills and child care.
"Instead of just paying the DPB to young mothers and forgetting about them, we should invest in their future, so they can become productive members of society," Mr Prebble said.
Mr Prebble said New Zealand should get back to Norman Kirk's original vision of social security, rather than the current social welfare dependency trap.
