Commerce proposals need careful examination - ACT

ACT leader Richard Prebble says his party will be examining very carefully the Government's proposed amendments to the Commerce Act.

"ACT is concerned at the growing amount of bureaucratic red tape that business must contend with and with the increasingly anti business climate that Parliament is creating. ACT's concern is that business is difficult enough without Parliament passing further punitive legislation that appears to be populist rather than based on proven need," Mr Prebble said.

"However the Minister Max Bradford has advised that ACT's position will be crucial in deciding the fate of this legislation and we've accepted the Minister's request to carefully examine the proposals to see if there is any part of them which we could support. We'll be consulting widely with the business community before making a decision.

"The Bill is in front of the commerce select committee which is yet to even hear submissions so ACT will keep an open mind and will not make a final decision until we've heard all of the arguments both for and against," Mr Prebble said.
