APEC Objectives Consistent With Union Goals - Ship

New Zealand's themes for APEC this year were consistent with
many of the objectives sought by world trade union leaders,
Prime Minister Jenny Shipley said today.
Mrs Shipley met
labour union leaders attending the 5th International
Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) Asia Pacific
Labour Network Conference in Wellington.
"As Chair of
APEC, we are as committed as the labour unions, to ensuring
that the benefits of the APEC process flow through to
working people."
During the meetings the Prime Minister
received the Conference?s Final Statement and undertook to
pass it to other APEC Leaders before the APEC Economic
Leaders' meeting in Auckland, next month.

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
