CSS Director Vindicated
“The Director of the Centre for strategic studies was the right person for the job. This is the conclusion to be drawn from the lengthy investigation by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Select committee,” says National MP and member of the Committee, Annabel Young.
“The
Government Minority Report states clearly that there was no
political interference in the Appointment of the director of
CSS. During the inquiry he demonstrated why he had been
appointed unanimously by the Selection Panel.”
“The
Opposition Report by ACT, Alliance, Labour and NZ First
attacks good Civil Servants for doing their job in a fair
and balanced way.
The proof that the Opposition pre-judged this issue is their failure to publish the clear statements of the selection Panel that they chose the best person for the job. Every member of the Selection panel denied any political interference.”
“I have circulated the
letter from Mr Gentles (Deputy Secretary of Defence and a
Member of the Selection Panel) as the Opposition members
refused to publish it as part of their report.”
