Labour Leader Helen Clark today
backed the government's decision to admit to New Zealand 300
refugees from East Timor.
"This humanitarian gesture is a
natural adjunct to the peacekeeping contribution of New
Zealand's military in East Timor which is widely supported
by New Zealanders.
"Anything New Zealand can do to help
make a better life for the people of strife-torn East
Timorese is to be welcomed, and I look forward to the
arrivals of the 300 refugees in our country," Helen Clark
said.
