Te Tawharau candidate for East Cape |
The Maori party, Te Tawharau, today announced its candidate
for the East Cape
electorate in the November 27
election will be 25 year old broadcaster, Anton
Tereneti Kerekere.
Mr Kerekere has tribal affiliations
with Rongo Whakaata, Ngati Porou, Ngati
Awa and Ngai
Tuhoe.
He is a former New Zealand national debating
champion, an active rugby player
and a keen amateur
actor. He currently works for the Whakatane radio
station,
Te Reo Irirangi o Te Manuka Tutahi, Sun
FM.
Mr Kerekere was praised today by Te Tawharau
leader, Hon Tuariki Delamere, as
an outstanding young
man whose whakapapa fitted in extremely well with the
East Cape seat.
"Anyone who is surprised that a Maori
party is running candidates in general
seats should
note that there are plenty of Maori on the East Cape
electoral
roll," he said.
