Look in the mirror, Commissioner

Labour
2000 web siteLabour Revenue spokesperson Mark Peck called on the Commissioner of Inland Revenue Department to look in the mirror before shooting the messenger.

"It is wrong for Mr Holland to blame the PSA and, by implication, the workers at the Inland Revenue Department for the criticism levelled at the Department in the recent Parliamentary Select Committee Report.

"The culture of any organisation is set at the top and Mr Holland has to accept his share of the responsibility for any adverse findings.

"I would suggest to him and other senior management at the Inland Revenue Department that they look at the Inland Revenue Department Inquiry Report as an opportunity to rebuild a strong public service ethic when providing a service to New Zealand tax payers.

"I have refused to join the call for anybody's head following the release of the report. That is still my view, and I would hope that Mr Holland would see this as an indication to him and senior management that they to should act in the spirit of the report for the good of everyone," said Mark Peck.
