1.6 million New Zealanders Can't Be Wrong - ACT
Monday, 29 November 1999, 1:10 pm
Press Release: ACT New Zealand
|
ACT Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide today said the big
winner on Saturday night was those wanting tougher sentences
for criminals and fewer MPs.
"1.6 million New
Zealanders can't be wrong. That's how many want tougher
sentencing.
"1.5 million New Zealanders want fewer
MPs. They too are right in their judgement.
"These
referenda results are the first test for the new
Labour/Alliance government. Are they going to listen to
what people want? Or are they going to stick with their
idealogical blinkers and naked self interst. The people
have spoken. It's well-past time MPs listened," said Rodney
Hide.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
