IRD should be run by best person for the Job

No time for political correctness
The best person
available should head the IRD, says National MP Annabel
Young.
“It is nonsense for Government MPs to
suggest that a politically correct outsider should be
appointed, regardless of merit. The State Services
Commission must run a proper selection process. They must
look for the best person they can find, whether that person
comes from inside or outside the organization.”
Annabel
Young says that it will be hard to find anyone who is
prepared to take the IRD job on, even before they start
looking for the right talents and skills. “Left-wing MPs
have made a sport of attacking public servants. This may
now come to haunt
them.”

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
