Jenny Shipley announced today that Annabel Young is the National party spokesperson on Revenue. Prior to coming into Parliament, Annabel was a tax specialist. She is a lawyer and an accountant.
“The issues facing the Revenue portfolio are enormous. I want to make sure that we have sensible tax policies. Simplicity and fairness have to be goals of tax policy as well as gathering tax.”
“No-one likes paying tax so we have to ensure that the tax system is robust but we also have to make sure that the costs of compliance are reasonable. As Opposition spokesperson, I am looking forward to holding Michael Cullen to account. I also want to ensure that the public servants don’t become the meat in the Labour/Alliance sandwich.”
Annabel Young is delighted she has also been asked to look after her home electorate Wellington Central and the neighboring Rongotai electorate.
“It will be great to be looking after my home town, Wellington. There are big issues that central government needs to sort out in this city. I want to work with the National Party Caucus to develop policies that will help this city develop.”
