NEW ZEALAND MANUFACTURERS FEDERATION TO ADDRESS SELECT COMMITTEE ON ACC

The New Zealand Manufacturers Federation (ManFed) is to make an oral submission to the Select Committee considering the Accident Insurance (Transitional Provisions) Bill at 3.40pm on Thursday 3 February in Room G:006, Parliament Buildings.

Representing the interests of New Zealand manufacturers will be David Moloney President of ManFed, Simon Carlaw its Chief Executive, and member David Orr, Managing Director of Deorr Furniture. Each will be available for comment after they have addressed the Committee.

There has been talk – and tentative moves were made by the previous government – of imposing a levy on the streaming services (eg Netflix, Prime, Disney +) and on Facebook,Youtube, Tik Tok etc. A reality check, though. New Zealand is far, far too small to bring the likes of Netflix, Google and Facebook to heel. California for example, is said to be the fifth largest economy in the world. Yet Meta and Google are threatening to cut off news items (and searches) about California if the state proceeds with its proposed California Journalism Preservation Act.
