REMOVAL OF ROYAL FAMILY
A RIGHT ROYAL HOW-DO-YOU DO
Party Leader Graham Capill said he was “disappointed” that the Auckland City Council saw fit to remove photos of the royal family instead of simply adding further photos to its collection.
Mr Capill said, “The royal family is part of New Zealand’s heritage and is still part of our constitution, regardless of what the Auckland City Council may think.”
“Whilst the Mayor may claim it is not anti-monarchist, it is a controversial action at this point in the nation’s history.
“I am sure that in the plush Council Chambers space could have been found for additional photos or icons, without the provocative decision to remove Her Majesty from the wall!
“While those pushing the republican agenda like to claim our nation is approaching maturity and hence self-determination is the key to future progress, I would suggest our past heritage, with those things that have been special to New Zealand, ought not to be carelessly abandoned,” Mr Capill said.
“Christian Heritage believes that informed debate is required, not precipitate action that only serves to further polarise the country,” he concluded.
