Treaty Issues Must Be Concluded - Young Nats

It is time the controversial Treaty of Waitangi settlement process should be brought to a conclusion, says newly elected Central North Island Young Nationals Chairman Jason Belworthy.

Commenting just days after a remit suggesting that a time and financial limit be placed on Treaty Settlements, and that All Treaty of Waitangi Settlements be Full, Fair and Final, was passed at the New Zealand National Party Rotorua Electorate AGM, and less than two weeks out from the Young Nationals annual policy conference - where the issue is expected to be raised, Mr Belworthy stressed the need for a positive conclusion to be reached in relation to the Treaty, in order for New Zealand to move forward in the new global economic environment.

"As a Nation, we simply can not afford to continue for another generation, scrapping over a document signed in 1840. There are obviously issues that need to be worked through- and I challenge all parties concerned to stop procrastinating, and simply deal with the issues" said Mr Belworthy

Continuing, Mr Belworthy commented that Young New Zealanders want the issues resolved "The young people I speak to every day are sick of the Treaty controversy. They want the grievances settled once and for all so that we can move forward as a united country".

Central North Island Young Nationals will be continuing to raise the issue until it is brought to a positive conclusion.
