Federated Farmers Wins For Sharemilkers
Federated Farmers has welcomed Labour Minister Margaret Wilson's making public the fruits of the federation's lobbying on behalf of sharemilkers on the Employment Relations Bill.
The Minister of Labour, Hon Margaret Wilson, answered a written question by Hon Max Bradford, confirming that the status of sharemilkers will not change.
The Department of Labour had previously confirmed to the federation that the Minister and Department would recommend to the Select Committee that the Bill be changed to ensure that sharemilkers' status as independent contractors remain unaltered.
"Federated Farmers representatives have had several meetings with the Ministers, MPs and officials to lobby on sharemilkers behalf," said Vice President and employment spokesperson Tom Lambie.
"I am very glad that there has been further confirmation of the Government's intention to leave sharemilkers unaffected. However, Federated Farmers remains concerned that other groups, such as sharefarmers, remain caught by the Bill."
