ECA claim not supported by the facts - Knowles

The facts do not support the claim that joblessness rose under the Employment Contracts Act, says Employers' Federation chief executive Anne Knowles.

Commenting on a claim by Labour Minister Margaret Wilson (ECA: Nine years of instability, media release 15 May) that joblessness rose by 26% from December 1990 to December 1999, Ms Knowles said official figures from Statistics New Zealand showed joblessness in fact fell by 15% over that period.

Joblessness Dec 1990: 229,100
Joblessness Dec 1999: 195,400
