Anti Capitalist protesters on trial in Wellington |
||
Press Release
Trial starts 10am Tuesday 13th March at Wellington District Court
Seven people arrested at an anti capitalist demonstration last year are facing trial in the Wellington District Court this week.
The activists were arrested on September 26th last year after police responded to a peaceful protest against Westpac Bank in Cuba Mall. The trial starts at 10am on Tuesday 13th March in Wellington District Court and is expected to run for three days.
Lawyer Tony Ellis is representing the seven activists. Some activists are facing up to seven charges each including trespass, obstructing police, resisting arrest, assaulting police, escaping custody, inciting violence, intentional damage and disorderly behaviour.
Several members of the Wellington Police Strategic Response Group (nice name for the riot squad) are giving 'evidence' - this is expected to be highly amusing.
