'Uphold the Law' - Join the Rally to Support the Right of Return for Palestinians, 10am, Midland Park, Lambton Quay.

Organised by the Wellington Palestinian support group, as part of the international weekend of protest to remind governments of their responsibilities to uphold international law and ensure that Israel lives up to its legal obligation to permit Palestinian refugees to return home.

"Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country." Article 13, Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"The United Nations resolves that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date." UN Resolution 194 on Palestine.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
