Ma¯ori Electoral Option Reaches Halfway Point

The 4-month 2001 Ma¯ori Electoral Option has now reached the halfway point with 22,486 Ma¯ori electors taking the opportunity to enrol or change roll type. At this stage 9,658 Ma¯ori electors have changed from the General roll to the Ma¯ori roll; 3,747 from the Ma¯ori roll to the General roll; 7,394 new enrolments on the Ma¯ori roll; and 1,687 new electors who have identified themselves as Ma¯ori on the General roll.

New Zealand Post’s Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks reminded eligible Ma¯ori voters that the 2001 Ma¯ori Electoral Option was still on but would close on Wednesday 1 August 2001. He urged all eligible unenrolled Ma¯ori and all enrolled Ma¯ori who wanted to change roll types to fill in their forms and send them in quickly.

Eligible Ma¯ori voters who haven’t received an Option pack should contact the Centre on 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or visit a Post Shop for an enrolment form which includes the roll type choice. Enrolment forms are also available on the elections website www.elections.org.nz.
