"The anti-Bypass gardening movement is digging the dirt again literally this Saturday with 'Park Up 2'.

"The new group Growing Community supported by Campaign for a Better City (CBC) and the Wellington Rainforest Action Group (WRAG) have organised a second 'Park Up' day this Saturday at 12 noon at the top of Kensington and Victoria Streets in Te Aro. Anyone is welcome to come along and help plant some trees and vegetable gardens, paint some murals, create some sculptures, perform, busk or just enjoy a picnic with your friends and neighbours.

""Park Up is not just about reclaiming land for community gardens, it's about revegetating our city, making it look good, growing free food for locals and bringing communities together to do something positive for the future." says Growing Community member Emily Bailey. "Replanting the proposed Bypass route is hoped to boost the sagging spirits of local residents after the small voting win of pro-Bypass mayor Kerry Prendergast." "Transit comes into our community and removes our homes and workplaces without even having approval for the road so we're going to go back in and replant the land with community gardens."

"Local band Jaunt are scheduled to play in the new garden just after 1pm on the day and local artists from Taniwha Murals will also be there. WRAG will be erecting educational signs about what can be eaten including the food and medicinal uses of the native trees being planted. Some supplies are still needed such as bricks and wood, fast growing native plants, fruit and vegetable plants, sculpting materials and paint. "Three local Wellington bands Jaunt, Dana Eclair and Vocoder are putting on a fundraising gig this Saturday night at The Cross on the corner of Abel Smith and Cuba Streets. At only $5 entry for the three bands, money will be going towards stopping the proposed inner-city Bypass and aiding the community garden projects on the Bypass route called Park Up. Jaunt will also be playing outside at Park Up 2 on the same day, around 1pm at the top of Kensington and Victoria Streets."

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
