Political Parties’ Registration Cancelled

The Electoral Commission announced today it had cancelled the registration of two political parties.

The registration of the NZ South Island Party was cancelled at the request of the party while the Aotearoa/New Zealand Party lost its registration because the Commission was satisfied that its number of current financial members had fallen below 500.

The number of registered political parties now stands at 21.

In another move, the Commission agreed to change the registered name of the Christian Heritage Party: Graham Capill Party Leader to Christian Heritage Party and to delete the registered abbreviation of the party’s previous name.

The Commission also registered party logos for the One New Zealand Party and Outdoor Recreation NZ

The Electoral Commission’s last meeting before the election to consider party and logo registration will be on 24 June.
