Action plan good news for women workers
The PSA is pleased to see the Government is taking a whole-of-government approach towards improving the circumstances of New Zealand women in its Action Plan for New Zealand Women and welcomes the initiatives outlined in the Plan, PSA national secretary Brenda Pilott said today.
“Improving the economic independence of women; achieving greater work-life balance for families; and improving the well-being and quality of life of New Zealand women will benefit New Zealand as a whole.”
“Initiatives such as pay and employment equity; improved access to childcare; and extending the paid parental leave scheme are great news for women in the workforce. None of the initiatives can be taken on their own, but taken together – and with a co-ordinated and concerted commitment from government, unions, and employers - they will make a real difference to the circumstances of New Zealand women.”
Brenda Pilott said the PSA believed the Action Plan,
combined with other policies being implemented by the
Government, would lead to a fairer society and more dynamic
economy.
