30 year old man charged with 1994 murder

A further arrest has been made in respect to the death of 23 year old Katherine Sheffield in 1994.

Ms Sheffield was killed in September ‘94 in a rural area of Northland.

A person was arrested later that year and subsequently convicted of manslaughter in respect to her death.

Today’s arrest follows an extensive police inquiry launched after further information was received.

The 30 year old Kaitaia man has been charged with murder and will appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow morning.

The matter will now proceed to a pre-trial hearing, depositions and subsequent trial.

No further disclosures in relation to new information or evidence can be disclosed at this stage.
