Lois Muir honoured
18 August 2004 Netball legend Lois Muir, OBE, receives the honour of Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit from Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright at an investiture ceremony at Government House in Wellington today. Her full citation reads: For services to sports administration and netball. Mrs Muir coached the national netball team for 15 years until 1988 and has become an inspiration for women in all sports. She played netball and basketball for Otago and New Zealand. She has served as an administrator on Netball New Zealand, the Hillary Commission, the Sports Foundation, the Masters Games and the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, into which she was inducted in 1993. She is currently coach of the Speights Otago Rebels netball team.
