Sea Cliffs Clean Up
The Defence Force will work closely with the Department of Conservation next week, to clean up Whitireia Park in Titahi Bay. The park will be closed on September 21 and 22 while wreckage is removed from the sea cliffs and foreshore.
Army personnel from Linton Military Camp will negotiate the steep slopes to gather rusted car parts that were unable to be retrieved during a clean-up operation earlier this year.
As in the previous operation, an Air Force Iroquois helicopter will then use underslung load equipment to winch large piles of rubbish from the cliffs.
Whitireia Park chairman Alan Ross asked that the public be patient while this potentially hazardous material is removed from the area “It is in the interests of public safety that we are cleaning up this popular recreational area, and closing the park while the operation is in progress.”
