RMA-Some Improvements, But Still No Economic Growth Stimulus
“New Zealand’s Chambers of Commerce welcome the package of improvements to the Resource Management Act announced by the Government” said National Chambers Chairman John Lindsay today. “That said, we are disappointed that they have evidently shied away from ranking economic concerns alongside environmental ones in their review of the Act”.
Mr Lindsay was speaking at NZCCI’s national conference in Nelson.
“NZCCI continues to call for an economic growth test to be added to the RMA” said Mr Lindsay.
“In addition to the welcome improvements promised yesterday, in areas such as greater consistency of application and national policy guidelines, we need a growth – promoting requirement in the Act”.
“This will strike the balance that the Government is seeking, between a clean healthy environment and our expectations for growth and opportunity”.
