||
Tuesday 28 September 2004
Leaders from Wellington's Muslim and Jewish communities met today and issued the following joint statement:
"As People of the Book, Muslims and Jews have lived together in peace for hundreds of years in many communities throughout the world, including Wellington. Together, we denounce all acts inciting hatred as they are contrary to our religious, ethical, and civic beliefs. Let us work together, with all of New Zealand, to build a healthy society where everyone respects each others' beliefs and we celebrate our diversity."
Adam Awad, Vice President, Wellington Somali Council Ashrof Farouk, President, International Muslim Association of New Zealand Dave Moskovitz, President, Wellington Progressive Jewish Congregation David Zwartz, President, New Zealand Jewish Council Mohamud Daar, External Relations Coordinator, Wellington Somali Council
