GPJA Update: Important Peace and Justice Events

Picket US Consulate, Customs St, City, 5pm Friday November 19

GPJA is calling for an emergency protest against the slaughter in Fallujah and to demand an end to the foreign military occupation of Iraq. Day by day the evidence accumulates that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has been a disaster for the Iraqi people. A major survey estimates the increased civilian deaths since the invasion totals 100,000! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/041028/325/f5iu1.html The puppet government has no legitimacy and the only way forward is for the Iraqi people to determine their own future free of foreign occupation.

"I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THE MOON" - the disinformation campaign against Ahmed Zaoui - is now available from GPJA at the UNITE office - $15 with all proceeds to go to the Zaoui family. This book is a brilliant expose by Scoop Media editor Selwyn Manning of the campaign to discredit Zaoui by Algeria and France and the complicity of New Zealand officials in this as our country has tried to paint itself as a loyal foot soldier in the war on terror. Get in early for XMAS - no I'm not joking - and help make the Zaoui XMAS a bit happier! John Minto, Phone 0064 9 8463173, Fax: 0064 9 8463 176

FALLUJAH John Pilger :Iraq: the unthinkable becomes normal - Mainstream media speak as if Fallujah were populated only by foreign "insurgents". In fact, women and children are being slaughtered in our name.

Fallujah Will Not End the Iraq War By PATRICK COCKBURN The belligerent trumpetings of the US Marines bode ill for Fallujah. Sgt Major Carlton W Kent, the senior enlisted marine in Iraq, told troops that the battle would be no different from Iwo Jima. In an analogy the Pentagon may not relish, he recalled the Tet offensive in Vietnam in 1968 and added: "This is another Hue city." http://www.counterpunch.org/patrick11092004.html

Prayers and tears in Falluja: The BBC News website spoke by phone to a reporter in Falluja, who described how people left in the city live on through siege and bombardment. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3986085.stm

Veronika Meduna: The Kaikoura Rebuild

A Scoop Foundation Investigation

Friday will be a big day for people north of Kaikōura – and for hundreds of construction workers who are racing to reopen State Highway 1 in time for the holiday season.

By the afternoon, the South Island’s main transport corridor will be open to traffic again, more than a year after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake mangled bridges and tunnels, twisted rail tracks and buried sections of the road under massive landslides. More>>

Gordon Campbell: On Defence Spending, Alabama, And Dolly Parton
