Corrections consultation matters referred to Police
Te Kaumaarua, the executive of Te Kauhanganui (the Waikato-Tainui tribal parliament) confirmed that it has today referred to the Police matters relating to a consultation contract with the Department of Corrections.
Te Kaumaarua Chairman, Kingi Porima said the board unanimously agreed, with one abstention, that matters raised by an internal investigation into the contract for consultation over the Springhill Correctional Facility should be referred to the Police.
Mr Porima said the board also initiated court proceedings today seeking repayment of some of the money, that was paid out as part of the consultation contract.
“The process for arriving at the decision to take the mater to the Police was robust and was not taken lightly,” he said.
Mr Porima said that he considers it would be inappropriate to make any further comment until the Police finish their inquiries.
