Labour Party committed to Chinese Community
The Labour Party’s commitment to the Chinese community has again been demonstrated with the selection of Chinese businessman Stephen Ching as a prominent candidate for the party in next year’s elections.
“Labour held a special conference in Auckland last weekend to determine who would be nominated from the Auckland region for the party’s list of candidates to contest the next election,” Labour Party president Mike Williams said.
“I was delighted to see Mr Ching win second place on the list of candidates for Auckland behind Labour’s existing Auckland Members of Parliament.
“The very high placing of Mr Ching demonstrates the high regard members of the party have for him, and the Chinese community of Auckland. His placing on the Auckland list will now go forward with others from all over the country to a party committee that will decide the final list rankings,” Mr Williams said.
Under MMP, each political party’s list of candidates is very important. The higher you are on the list the greater your chance of becoming an MP.
