TLN Welcomes New Geneva WTO Appointment

“The New Zealand Trade Liberalisation Network is pleased to see Crawford Falconer’s appointment as New Zealand’s next Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation” said TLN Chair Philip Lewin last night.

Mr Lewin was commenting in response to the announcement from Foreign Minister Phil Goff that Mr Falconer would succeed outgoing Ambassador Tim Groser in August.

“As the Minister has indicated, Crawford Falconer is a world-class trade diplomat, and has a high reputation and extensive networks worldwide. The job he and his team will be doing for New Zealand in Geneva is of critical importance, as we strive to bring the Doha Round of global trade negotiations to a successful conclusion.

“As a non-subsidising agricultural exporter and also niche manufacturing and services economy, New Zealand needs to maximize its trade access opportunities. We have as much riding on a big Doha outcome as any country in the world” said Mr Lewin.

The New Zealand Trade Liberalisation Network Inc (“TLN”) is a business organisation aimed at encouraging broad public understanding and support for trade. The TLN was established in October 2001. Funded and led by New Zealand’s leading export interests, TLN is an incorporated society which works with other like-minded individuals and organisations sharing similar goals.
