John Perfect elected NZ Kennel Club President

John Perfect of Nelson is the President of the NZ Kennel Club for 2006/07. At the Annual Conference of Delegates in Wellington on Sunday afternoon he won a contested election.

He says that his priority is to ensure continued growth of the NZ Kennel Club for the betterment of all members and all disciplines. His experience within the NZ Kennel Club spans 40 years and he is a Life Member of the Nelson Districts Kennel Association . He has served on the NZ Kennel Club’s Executive Council from 1980 through 1985 and again in 1996 through 2000. Mr Perfect says the NZ Kennel Club will continue to be active in speaking out.

“Responsible dog owners need to know that the NZ Kennel Club will be their organisation and will be speaking out for them and their dogs.

“We have to build on what we’re doing well. We are:
- “Promoting the benefits of improving the lines of purebreed dogs
- “Strong supporters of freedom of choice for dog owners, including the choice whether to dock a tail or whether to insert a microchip
- “Encouraging dialogue between our clubs and members and their local Councils
- “Well aware of our demonstrated credibility when dealing with central and local Government
- “Involved through our 50 dog training clubs in domestic training. We operate the Canine Good Citizen scheme which provides testing and certification to see that the dog and his owner can be respected members of the community.

“The strong growth of agility competition was reflected in the decision to provide for direct agility representation on our Executive Council,” said Mr Perfect.
