Boobs on Bikes or Bums on Seats?

Boobs on Bikes or Bums on Seats?

Aid organisation TEAR Fund has suggested a novel alternative to the Boobs on Bikes parade organised for Auckland City: Bums on Seats.

But these aren't just any bums on seats; they are bums on seats in the world's poorest countries.

"We are so privileged in New Zealand to spend our time discussing the value of a Boobs on Bikes parade - when 2.4 billion people in the developing world lack access to the most basic sanitation facilities," says TEAR Fund.

TEAR Fund is suggesting Aucklanders with no interest in seeing boobs riding motorbikes can instead see bums put on toilet seats through their alternative gift catalogue.

By buying a toilet gift card you allow a fly-free latrine to be built in a rural village in the developing world, dramatically improving the sanitation and health of that community.

To get the ball rolling on their Bums on Seats initiative, TEAR Fund has sent Mayor of Auckland, Dick Hubbard, a 'toilet' gift card.

"I think Mr. Hubbard will appreciate the thought behind the gift," says TEAR Fund.

Toilets, and a host of other gifts, can be purchased on TEAR Fund's website: www.tearfund.org.nz
