Settlement of Progressive dispute a win for the union movement - PSA
"Today's settlement of the dispute between Progressive Supermarkets and the National Distribution Union and the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union is a win for these workers and the union movement," said Brenda Pilott, National Secretary of the PSA.
"Our union has supported these workers throughout the dispute because we know the importance of unions standing up for fair treatment and respect at work."
"Union members, along with thousands of New Zealanders were offended by the tactics of this multi-national company as shown by the overwhelming support from the public."
"These workers should be praised for their courage and determination in opposing the hostile and aggressive actions of their employer."
"The settling of this dispute sends a messages to employers who are considering denying workers necessary pay rises or the ability to collectively bargain: you are not only taking on the union on the site, but the whole union movement."
The PSA is New Zealand's largest union representing over 55,000 public service workers in local and central government, health and community services.
