NZ Red Cross, Govt support Indonesia Flood Victims
New Zealand Red Cross has welcomed the New Zealand Government's support for the thousands of residents in Jakarta affected by the torrential rain and resultant severe flooding that hit the capital late last week.
New Zealand Red Cross will facilitate the transfer of $100,000 of funding from government aid agency NZAID through to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent for emergency relief efforts.
New Zealand Red Cross delegate, Jakarta based Peter Cameron who is the Deputy Head of Delegation in Indonesia, is working closely with the Indonesian Red Cross in the flood response.
At the height of the floods over 60% of the city of Jakarta, which is home to an estimated 14 million people, was affected by the flooding. The Indonesian Red Cross reports that 40 people have died and over 400,000 people have been displaced.
