Rodney Police are investigating a serious incident in Orewa last night in which a Japanese female was sexually violated.

The victim has told Police she was attacked and assaulted in the locality of Maygrove Park, in Orewa, at about 9.00pm by an unknown male.

Acting Officer in Charge of the Rodney CIB Detective Phillip Cox, says this was a vicious sexual assault, and a team of ten police staff are already making extensive enquiries in the Orewa area in their search to locate an offender.

"We are especially interested in hearing from persons who regularly frequent the area of Maygrove Park, at around 9.00pm in the evenings, or anyone who lives nearby. They may have observed some suspicious or unusual behaviour."

"Because of existing language factors there has been limited opportunity to obtain a detailed description of the attacker. Police will be meeting with the victim again today before releasing any description of any alleged suspect."

"Any person who has information that can assist Rodney Police is asked to contact Detective WONG or Detective COX at Orewa CIB on 09 427 9805."

"The Japanese victim is presently resting and recovering from her ordeal. She is receiving medical treatment, and is being supported by close friends as well as Victim Support. She's severely shaken by this experience," Detective COX said.
