FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
End to segregated workplaces benefits all
IHC is
celebrating another long awaited step towards equal rights
for people with intellectual disabilities after Parliament
tonight passed the Disabled Persons Employment Promotion Act
Repeal Bill.
“Segregation in workplaces leads to segregation in the community,” IHC Director of Advocacy Trish Grant said today.
“More of the community will now be able to benefit from working alongside people with an intellectual disability and having opportunities to build friendships, respect and understanding.
The previous law was discriminatory towards people with an intellectual disability and encouraged fear, ignorance and prejudice. IHC is pleased to see the end of it.”
