Police Seek Leave To Charge Taito Philip Field

New Zealand Police National News Release

24 May 2007

Police have asked the Auckland Crown Solicitor to start the process to lay charges of bribery against Taito Phillip Field, M.P.

Detective Superintendent Malcolm Burgess said Police were seeking leave from the High Court to proceed with 14 charges of bribery by a Member of Parliament. Approval to lay the charges under Section 103 of the Crimes Act 1961 must come from a Judge of the High Court.

Mr Burgess said that he expected the formal application to be filed in the High Court in mid to late June 2007. He said that it was likely to take until then for all of the relevant material to be assembled in support of the application.
